The United Nations Panel on Climate Change and the EU Carbon Environment Alliance reached a consensus

08-22

Summary: The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the EU Carbon Energy and Environmental Protection Alliance have reached a strategic cooperation relationship. Both parties will use blockchain technology to promote the development of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda. Natural resources and dual-carbon environmental protection are the focus of their cooperation.

According to foreign media on July 16, the European Carbon Energy and Environmental Protection Alliance Committee and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) jointly announced that the two parties have formally reached a strategic cooperation to jointly promote the application of blockchain technology in the dual-carbon environmental protection business field.  .  The two parties signed a cooperation agreement at the “Blockchain Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Development” conference, and the IPCC will donate one million US dollars to the European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee. Both parties will jointly explore the use of blockchain technology in the protection of natural resources and blockchain technology.  Application in the dual-carbon environmental protection and other fields.  The cooperation between the two parties will improve the governance level of global climate projects, including the use of digital assets to provide economic incentives to curb carbon emissions from the greenhouse effect.

The European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee, the European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee, is a professional non-profit charitable organization registered in Europe. It started working in the European Union in 2012 and is committed to the sustainable energy development of the European Union.  The vision of the European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee is to promote the prosperity and development and climate security of the EU and the world through the promotion of sustainable energy.

The role of the IPCC is to evaluate the best available scientific, technical, and socio-economic information on global climate change in the world on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis.  In fact, blockchain technology has always been favored by UN officials due to its potential to provide problem solutions for certain areas covered by the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.  Earlier, CoinDesk had reported that UN representatives had already used blockchain technology to rationally apply blockchain technology in the field of environment and climate to help change the driving force of the economy and society, and promote circular economy and low-carbon development.

It is reported that the white paper discussing the application of blockchain technology by both parties has been completed.  In a statement, the European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee stated that the publication of the white paper can "help policy makers, regulators and UN member states understand the important role of blockchain technology in carbon trading emissions rights, but this is only the first step."  .

The European Carbon Energy Conservation Alliance Committee stated that blockchain can be used to improve the carbon emissions trading system.  For example, we are currently working together to develop a blockchain platform-Carbon trading digital currency, which is mainly used for carbon asset trading around the world, through the promotion of CTDC, participating in carbon trading matchmaking, promoting people's low-carbon life, purchasing low-carbon products, etc.  Low-carbon tokens can be obtained for all actions.  Recording carbon assets on the public blockchain can ensure transparency, ensure that transactions are effective and settled automatically.

IPCC Vice Chairman Fernandez de Cordova said: “The future is right before our eyes. Blockchain technology can help the development of environmental protection, promote climate financing, and enhance climate action. In this regard, we should work together to develop a technology around this technology.  A policy that is transparent and can be applied by everyone. Using this technology, we will promote the advantages of blockchain in a way that we could not imagine before to achieve the development of global environmental benefits."
